Bryce Dorand is a New Orleans based Photographer and Filmmaker. If you want to talk about business, or have anything else to say, talk to me. If you want to keep up with my work, or just see more, you can look at my instagram.
My photographic work primarily focuses on showcasing humans within their environments. I aim to create a version of portrait photography that connects us into our world, instead of separating us out. Showcasing where we are, and the beauty that exists inherently in the subjects. My major influences are Gordon Parks & Irving Penn. Both create images that manage to be both stunning and impactful. Seeing Parks’ work large in galleries is one of the defining moments of photography for me, and I am never not impressed by how rich and complex his work is. Penn has a wonderfully playful side and a penchant for challenging his subjects that I also find inspiring. I additionally try to create photos inspired more by the paintings of Mark Rothko, whose works exist primarily as emotional experiences that wash over you as you look.
My first short film, On the Far Side of the Morning, premiered at the New Orleans Film Festival in 2022. I am currently working on my debut feature film, Goldfish, which you can read more about here. Both films focus on queer characters struggling with their own identities, addiction, and the unique societal pressures they exist under. My Major influences are Chantal Akerman, Tsai Ming-Liang, John Waters, & Edward Yang. The first three inspire my ferociously independent streak and my focus on LGBTQ identities. Yang, Tsai, and Akerman, meanwhile, showed me how to create characters and stories.
